![Singapore to build world's first 'green berths' by 2016]()
Not only is Singapore well on its way to becoming a more sustainable city, it's getting recognised the world over for it.
By 2016, Jurong Port will ready the world's first 'green berths', made out of concrete recycled from existing berths and yards.
Channel NewsAsia says the berths will only be constructed using cement, steel mesh and reinforcement bars that have been certified green.
When complete, the Active Beautiful and Clean (ABC) Waters Project as declared by the Public Utilties Board (PUB) will be about 14 metres deep and have 30 percent more storage space.
Some of the berths' ABC features include 100 percent irrigation of its landscape using collected rainwater.
Jurong Port has been accorded the Green Mark Award (Gold) from Singapore's Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for its efforts.
