Southeast Asian Birds Aviary reopens at Jurong Bird Park as Wings of AsiaAfter a three-month overhaul, the Southeast Asian Birds Aviary opens its skies once again yesterday as the Wings of Asia, where visitors at the Jurong Bird Park can witness and learn about the some of the region's rarest birds.  The revitalised aviary now spreads across 2,600 square-metres, hosting about 500 birds from 135 species and even 24 threatened species including the black-winged starling and the Bali Mynah.  A breeding programme is also in the works to maintain and safeguard a sustainable population of these threatened birds, whose population are declining rapidly due to habitat loss and degradation. Eventually, birds of the selected species will be introduced back into their native environments.  The three-month makeover saw the expansion of its smaller aviaries, theming work, revamped educational displays and an overhaul of its aviary mesh for an improved viewing experience.  Photo: Wildlife Reserves Singapore Facebook page
