Former national runner struck down in hit-and-run accident39-year-old Elangovan Ganesan had represented Singapore thrice as a long-distance runner in three consecutive SEA Games from 1997, and even won titles in the Standard Chartered Marathon for three years running.  As accomplished as he is, the athletics coach was struck down on the roads while cycling and left behind in a hit-and-run accident along Sims Way.  According to The New Paper, the accident took place in the early hours yesterday around 6.15am when Ganesan was on his way to meet his cycling kakis at Changi. A white Honda Integra hit him on his right side, leaving him with lacerations to his right shoulder elbow, hip and shin when he slid on the road for almost 20 metres.  Ganesan saw the car slowing down for a moment, but it drove off before he could note down the vehicle's license plate.  Fortunately, another motorist had witnessed the accident and tailed the white car for a short distance before the perpetrator sped off into Guillemard Road. The witness took note of the car's registration number before returning to Ganesan to render assistance.  The athlete has since reported the hit-and-run accident to the police. He was picked up by his wife and was admitted at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. His $8,000 carbon-fiber road bike however was severely damaged from the accident.  Investigations are ongoing.  Photo: Trackstar Athletics Facebook page
