Justice Tan Siong Thye appointed as Singapore's first Deputy Attorney-GeneralSingapore's first ever Deputy Attorney-General has been appointed; judicial veteran Justice Tan Siong Thye takes on the role for a three-year term in the newly created post after the Constitution was amended last year.  According to law academics speaking to TODAY, the Deputy Attorney-General would help alleviate the increasingly complex legal ongoings of the Government and also distinguish between the dual roles currently filled by the presiding Attorney-General V K Rajah.  Justice Tan began his career in law in 1979 as a deputy public prosecutor and has also served as district judge and director of the Commercial Affairs Department before his appointment as a High Court judge last year, being involved in high-profile cases including the Committee of Inquiry for the Little India riot.  Photo: Jason Rosenberg via Flickr
