Love the endearingly kitschy nature of karaoke? Here's a karaoke party with a distinctly sophisticated and local twist that should appeal to both the fashionably chic and the unabashedly sentimental.
The Karaoke Party exhibition kicks off this weekend in a fashion film series featuring fashion and music by homegrown designers and musicians in a format that Singaporeans know best: karaoke videos. The interactive video installation offers three fashion-centric karaoke videos accompanied by original tracks — performed by the likes of Vandetta, Gentle Bones, Masia One, Stopgap and ENEC.E — that everyone can sing along to.
The opening night this Friday will in fact feature 'live' performances by the music artistes themselves as they sing along to short films cooked up by Singaporean photographer Lenne Chai, filmmaker Ling Ang and their team of creatives in charmingly generic 90's karaoke visual placeholders — all of which spotlight apparel by local fashion designers MASH-UP, Yesah and By Invite Only to name a few.
The installation kicks off on Jan 16 at KEEPERS Singapore and will go on till Jan 25; more details available on the official Karaoke Party website.
