The Philippine embassy in Singapore has advised a Filipino nurse currently embroiled in a scandal involving insensitive online remarks to be "extra careful about his social media usage", The Straits Times reports.
The embassy has also told the employee of Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) to co-operate fully with the Singapore Police Force (SPF) as they investigate the allegations made against him.
Comments on Facebook attributed to his 'Edz Ello' account, calling Singaporeans "loosers" (losers) and threatening to evict the country so it can be taken over by Filipinos, have been circulating on the internet since the weekend.
According to statements by TTSH, 'Edz Ello' says his account has been hacked, implying he wasn't the person making the remarks. However, earlier comments posted in his name as well as others found on his Google+ page, have made netizens skeptical of his claim.
Many are also questioning TTSH's treatment of the matter, considering the hospital terminated the employment of Singaporean blogger Roy Ngerng last year for his role in a defamation lawsuit involving Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
TTSH revealed today that the staff nurse has been placed on admin duty pending police investigation.
