As we previously reported in September of this year, Affinity Yoga's dramatic closing was widely speculated to be due to business partner with a shady past, Nikki Haustead (also known as Cameron Brown). Haustead has a widely documented history of immoral business practices in the fitness and yoga scene in Australia and New Zealand. After its closing, several police complaints were filed against Affinity Yoga as members were not adequately warned about the closing of the studio, nor were they refunded for unused memberships.
There had been no further news on the story until Dec. 9, when Everyone Yoga took over Affinity Yoga's Facebook page and announced that old posts of Affinity Yoga would soon be removed. They also said that a new studio, Everyone Yoga, would open at two locations. The new studio's first branch will be opening at #01-B1 146 Robinson Road on Jan. 1, 2015.
It is not clear what the affiliation is between Affinity Yoga and Everyone Yoga. However, Singaporean Sandra Loh, the new yoga studio owner took to Affinity Yoga's Facebook page and wrote that she would be offering former Affinity Yoga clients “until 01 April 2015 the chance to register at everyone-yoga and whatever monies you spent with them, you can use as credits to purchase membership in everyone-yoga.”
“For the record,” Loh writes, “I am not the owner of affinity nor have I ever been involved in the operations of affinity (sic).”
However, the most concerning news is that Haustead, the shady Affinity Yoga business partner and teacher, will still be a part of this new venture. On a since deleted post on Affinity Yoga's Facebook page, Affinity Yoga wrote, “Nikki Shadforth Haustead will be one of the teachers [at Everyone Yoga]. Contrary to many speculations, she is also a victim of this whole Affinity ordeal. As what the owner, Sandra Loh, has been doing since the beginning, she is giving everyone a fresh start.”
Nopay Nikki, a global group of jilted ex-employees and business partners who are dedicated to shedding light on Haustead's shady business practices in Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand, wrote on their Facebook page, “Apparently after speaking to one of her ex staff [in Singapore], Nikki is looking for a $100,000 loan to repay everybody. But the problem is – she has a reported $300,000 of debt across Singapore now according to this ex staff member.”
Nopay Nikki continues to speculate, “Nikki Haustead is clearly the person behind the affinity yoga posts regarding the new studio and has clearly found a backer to be the new 'face' of what will essentially be her studio. Anybody who has any involvement in this studio clearly has more money than sense. Don't be surprised that in 3 months (sic) time you will be further out of pocket and essentially supporting an illegally motivated, immoral, Botox filled con artist.”
Although the yoga community is generally enthusiastic about this new venture, especially since Affinity Yoga members will finally get to use up their memberships, Sunita Sudheesan on Affinity Yoga's Facebook page stated her sentiments very simply, “very skeptical”.
