As of noon, there have been no reports of Singaporeans being affected by the developing hostage situation in Sydney, Australia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) revealed today (Dec. 15).
“MFA is deeply concerned about this disturbing development and our thoughts are with the hostages and their families. MFA is monitoring the situation closely," said a ministry spokesman.
The spokesman also said that the Singapore High Commission in Canberra is contacting Singaporeans in Sydney who have e-registered with MFA and advises those who have not done so to join the database.
The ministry also reminds them to take precautions for their personal safety, heed the advice of the local authorities and monitor developments closely.
