91 films from Singapore's Golden Cinema era recognized under UNESCO heritage programme Singapore’s archived treasure of classic Malay films from the ‘50s to ‘70s get the befitting recognition they deserve — 91 films produced by Cathay-Keris Studio (of Cathay Organisation) have been added to the UNESCO Memory of The World Programme.  Films such as the James Bond spoof Mat Bond and more represents a curated collection of Singapore’s Golden Cinema Era — when stars such as P Ramlee, Saloma lit up the silver screens — which Asian Film Archive considers as embodiments of Singapore’s heritage and traditions during their time, Channel NewsAsia reports.  Under the Memory of The World Programmes, UNESCO aims to preserve and protect the world’s documented heritage, and permanently provide universal access to their archives to raise awareness of their historical significance.  Photo: YouTube screengrab
