A nine-year-old boy was tragically robbed of his future when he was knocked down by a vile motorist who ran a red light in broad daylight, leaving him paralyzed for life as a quadriplegic.
The High Court has appropriately meted out justice — the driver will now have to pay more than $1.25 million in damages for the boy’s pain and suffering, his loss of future earnings and medical expenses, TODAY reports.
The damages were also awarded for the loss of future earnings for the boy’s mother, who was forced to quit her job to care for him around the clock.
The accident itself took place in 2011 along Jurong East Avenue 1, where the errant driver ran a red light, reportedly flinging the boy in the air and continuously hit him several times. The boy — now 12-years-old — sustained severe traumatic brain injury, leaving him permanently bedridden and require close attention 24/7. He also has to be fed through tube.
Medical experts testified that the boy would only live up to 38 years of age and will need constant surgery, rehabilitation and physiotherapy for the rest of his life.
