Junkie's attempt to import drugs through postal service stamped out by CNBNice try, but no cigar. An enterprising junkie tried to import a batch of drugs in a locked safe-box disguised as a book through the postal system, but was thwarted in his nearly successful endeavour.  Yesterday, a vigilant Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer at the ICA Parcel Post Section found a suspicious parcel arriving from a neighbouring country, declared as containing books. Upon further investigation, one book was in actuality a safe-box hiding about 103 grams of ketamine and 299 Ecstacy tablets.  Officers from the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) followed up on the investigations and conducted a raid on a unit in the vicinity of Marsiling Drive, where they seized 37 grams of meth, a small amount of ketamine, 120 Erimin-5 tablets and various other drugs. A similar safe-box disguised as a book was also recovered from the unit.  The 25-year-old male Singaporean behind the operation has been arrested. If found guilty of importation of Class A controlled drugs, he will face a minimum of 5 years’ imprisonment and 5 strokes of the cane.  Photo: CNB newsroom
