61-year-old Mrs. Saw supported her husband for 30 years after he lost his job in the '80s and even discovered his dead body when he killed himself in June last year, but she's getting neither his savings nor his house, writes The Straits Times.
The late 63-year-old had instead left all $37,000 in his Central Provident Fund (CPF) savings to a Chinese national he met at a bar called Ms. Liu, plus a majority share of the proceeds from his Bukit Panjang executive masionette.
An additional $50,000 will be given to another Chinese national Ms. Ye, while $30,000 — 50,000 will go to the dead man's brother, a Ms. Ng, an old folks home and a temple. Only the balance from these will go to his wife and his three children.
Mrs. Saw has written to the CPF Board, but they've only said they have to follow the man's wishes. She tried to appeal in court, spending close to $40,000 in court and legal fees, but the court ruled in favour of Ms. Liu, who Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao reports to be working at Marina Bay Sands.
The family has till Monday to appeal to the High Court.
