A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to three weeks’ jail for criminal intimidation and mischief over an incident that saw him make threatening remarks to a taxi driver before damaging the taxi.
Earlier in May, young Dickson Ng Ming Hao had been in an argument with his girlfriend in the taxi. In a misplaced effort to regain his superiority, he asked the driver if he was afraid of the knife he had just bought, gesturing to the plastic bag he was carrying. Ng then threatened to “chop someone” in Hokkien, TODAY reports.
The driver, 46-year-old Goh Chong Yee told Ng not to cause any trouble, but apparently that was an affront to the young man’s manlihood. Ng shouted that he was a secret society gang member and challenged Goh to a fight. He also used the knife to hit the bonnet of the taxi, creating a dent.
Though Ng had been reportedly diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, he was not suffering from any functional psychotic illness.
