Immigration authorities of Singapore and USA have signed a joint statement that will see them exploring the development of a Trusted Traveller Programme (TTP) that will clear the way for easy border clearance for citizens of both countries.
The bilateral initiative allows citizens of both countries for more convenient travelling through automated clearance systems at major entry points such as airports and seaports. The programme is voluntary, and interested travellers will have to undergo assessment before achieving enrolment into TTP. "The TTP provides expedited travel for pre-approved, low risk travellers," said U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske. "The U.S. is pleased to see the partnership and cooperation between the U.S. and Singapore demonstrated with this agreement."
Currently, citizens of Malaysia and Hong Kong who have applied and are enrolled under the programme are able to use the automated immigration clearance facilities at Singapore’s borders, and the same goes for Singaporean travellers at Malaysia's and Hong Kong’s entry points.
