Singapore's laziest detective forges signatures to avoid doing work for two yearsIn an industrious act of indolence, an ex-police officer forged his supervisor’s signature into his logbook for close to two years, just to escape from doing his job — which is to actually investigate police cases.  33-year-old Norazly Joihani pleaded guilty in court last Saturday, admitting to 14 counts out of the 60 charges meted out on him, according to Straits Times. His main offences include forgery, criminal breach of trust and cheating. Norazly’s former responsibilities as the duty investigation officers would have him dealing with police reports under the division’s jurisdiction for the day, and complying with monitored procedures and directions set out in the assignment list.  The former officer preferred to loaf around rather than doling out justice, and made cancellations and countersigning against the amendments using his supervisor’s signature, thus avoiding the commencement of investigations.  According to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, his actions lead to 32 unresolved cases which included six cases of unnatural deaths, eight cases of deaths with natural causes and 18 active matters which required investigations to be conduced.  Other than his unwillingness to solve cases, he also kept items seized during investigations by forging acknowledgement forms for the return of case exhibits. The rightful owners never saw their items ever again.  Norazly’s lawyer maintained that his client was remorseful and did not gain anything from his actions. He will be sentenced on Jan. 8.  Photo: alex.ch via Flickr
