Bumbling Boris, Mayor of London, rides Singapore's 'gleaming tube' and plays with monitor lizard during visitLondon mayor Boris Johnson was recently in town from Nov. 27 to 29 on an official visit to support a FinTech Trade Mission, a collaborative endeavour between Singapore and London to develop financial technology apps.  On the way to his meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana last Saturday, Johnson took the opportunity to try out Singapore’s favourite (i.e, only) public train service on the Circle Line where he reportedly sat beside a Japanese couple.   Riding Singapore's gleaming tube - the MRT - this morning on the way to a meeting with the PM pic.twitter.com/OXshmGywbR — Boris Johnson (@MayorofLondon) November 28, 2014 Noticeably absent from his MRT experience are the overcrowded platforms, delayed train timings, crammed train cabins and intrusive STOMP netizens.  After a hearty discussion with the Prime Minister on “trade, Europe and opportunities for growth between London and the UK & Singapore”, Johnson made a visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens where he wrangled with a monitor lizard and had some words about the Dendrobium Margaret Thatcher, an orchid named after the Baroness herself during her visit to the gardens in 1985.  Fantastic visit this morning to Singapore's botanical garden to promote scientific and research links with Kew pic.twitter.com/NDgK36lQhX— Boris Johnson (@MayorofLondon) November 29, 2014 His six-day tour of the Far East sees him drumming up business opportunities for London and meeting up with political leaders in Singapore, Indonesia and currently, in Malaysia.
