Yemeni forces yesterday diffused a very tense kidnapping situation which saw Al-Qaeda operatives taking eight hostages, including one US soldier. All hostages have been freed in a predawn raid, where security forces killed seven militant captors.
While the operation was a great success, Yemen still remains a ticking time bomb as security forces battle with Islamist insurgents and separatist movements in the country.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) however warns Singaporeans to not take any chances and strongly advise citizens to leave the country while it’s still possible. Singaporeans may face difficulties departing the country should the situation in the failed state of Yemen deteriorate — many airlines have already stopped flying in and out of the country. The small amount flights that are still operating may cancel with little or without notice.
MFA strongly advises to avoid all travel to Yemen, and those who are currently in the country should register immediately on the MFA website.
