LTA dives deeper into smartphone transport appsAs the top country in the world when it comes to owning smartphones, it’s only natural that the Land Transport Authority (LTA) should invest heavily in apps that could make our commuting a lot easier.  Their current mobile application My.Transport.SG has already amassed a huge number of users for its informative wealth of features including real-time bus arrival times, ERP rates and gantries, traffic news, parking guides and more — almost everything you need to know to travel around in Singapore in one handy app.  With a recent app update, LTA has made it even more easier to get around. The new Journey Planning feature automatically maps out the shortest and most convenient route to their destinations on buses and trains, and includes a personalised alarm function showing a countdown of the number of bus stops before disembarking.  Further upcoming enhancements to the app next year include a more accurate time of arrival for buses, tracking bus location by the seconds and updating commuters by the minute. Even information about the available seating or standing room will be transmitted.  LTA has also announced plans to launch a taxi application called Taxi-Taxi@SG, where commuters can locate the number of available taxis near them and broadcast their positions to taxi drivers. The app will be launched by the end of the year.  Photo: Land Transport Authority Facebook page
