When in London, eat at Singaporean-owned Kopitiam Straits TimesPhoto: Pistachio nut and apricot cake from Kopitiam Straits Times in London In London and looking for standard local fare with a slice of home? Check out Kopitiam Straits Times located at 66A Whitechapel Road.  According to the — coincidentally — the Straits Times Life!, founders Janet Loo and Vanessa Low Occhipinti wanted a business that reminded them of home, hence its name, but couldn't serve typical Singaporean dishes like chicken rice and laksa because they couldn't find a chef that specialised in them.   Instead, Kopitiam Straits Times offers a diverse menu of savoury sandwiches and pies, teatime cakes and pastries, as well as drinks like chilli hot chocolate and smoothies. Some items do have a hint of home, like their Teh Alia and Milo Dinosaur, both of which they've had to tweak a little to suit British expectations.  Recommended sandwiches include their pesto mozarella with cherry tomatoes and pine nuts, cranberry chicken and Southern fried chicken with fresh mango and wasabi mayo dressing.  Photos: Twitter
