Subaru Challenge, the annual feat of human endurance for a free car, ended yesterday night in a record breaking year with four participants breaking the previous record of 81 hours and 32 minutes with hands firmly chope-ing the prize — a brand new Subaru Forester.
Channel NewsAsia reports that 49-year-old SATS catering officer G Jaishanker was crowned the winner of this year’s Challenge, leaving 399 other contestants in his wake by keeping his hands on the car for 82 hours and 16 minutes.
Jaishanker is a veteran at the contest, taking second prize back in 2012 and the fourth place last year. Eight-time participant Analiza Mokhtar put up a close fight but dropped out at 12.45am this morning, leaving Jaishanker as the winner.
The contest kicked off last Saturday, and it truly takes a certain type of mental strength to last for four days, with only five-minute breaks every six hours. This year’s prize car is worth $85,000 excluding COE.
