![Three arrested for loanshark harassment activities island-wide]()
Three people were arrested recently for their suspected involvement in loanshark activities.
On Nov. 10 at about 7:48pm, police were alerted to a suspicious character loitering outside a residental unit at Block 332, Jurong East Avenue 1. Officers from the Clementi Police Division found the said unit vandalised with paint and loanshark-related graffiti and eventually arrested two 19-year-olds after reviewing PolCams in the area. Two cans of red paint, one red marker and one screwdriver were seized from the couple, suspected to be former debtors.
Police had also been receiving reports of loanshark harassment from other areas in Singapore, including Hougang, Segar Road, Toa Payoh, Woodlands and Yishun, from Nov. 1. A team of dedicated crime strike force officers from the Jurong West, Toa Payoh and Queenstown Neighbourhood Police Centres (NPC) probed extensively and collected images from PolCams to track down the suspect, and eventually arrested the 25-year-old on Nov. 10.
All three suspects will be charged today. First-time loanshark harassment offenders face jail of up to five years, a fine and no less than three strokes of the cane.
