In the wee hours of Nov. 11, Traffic Police conducted an island-wide operation in their latest endeavour to apprehend drink-drivers.  Various road blocks were set up across Singapore, where a total of 69 drivers were stopped and tested for alcohol consumption. The operation managed to nab 11 drivers, aged between 28 and 44, all of whom failed the breathalyser test. The prescribed legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millimetres of breath.  Upon conviction, drink drivers will be disqualified from driving for at least a year, and have their licences revoked. First-time offenders can be fined between $1,000 to $5,000, while repeat offenders may be punished with a maximum fine of $30,000 and a mandatory jail term of up to three years.
