The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are looking to introduce a new law on liquor control in Parliament next year says S. Iswaran, the Second Minister for Home Affairts and Trade & Industry.
After reviewing current liquor control measures and gathering feedback from residents and businesses about law and order concerns about people congregating to consume liquor in public places (particularly at night), the MHA finds it fit to introduce some new measures.
They’re considering restricting public consumption and the hours for retail sales of liquor, similar to case studies in places such as South Australia and Texas where open consumption of alcohol is prohibited.
However, the MHA will also take into account the feedback from both the public and businesses to balance the diverse interests of various stakeholders. Singapore can expect new liquor laws to be enacted early next year.
