The Ministry of Health (MOH) revealed in Parliament earlier today the three major mental conditions afflicting Singaporeans — dementia, depression and anxiety.
The results are based on data from the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) and national surveys conducted, Channel NewsAsia reports.
Senior Minister of State of Health Dr Amy Khor has mentioned these three conditions are found to be the most prevalent as continual relapses dementia cannot be easily determined due to the nature of the conditioning worsening progressively over time, while relapses for depression and anxiety occur when patients encounter higher degrees of difficulty when their daily lives are affected.
Dr Khor reassures that mental health clinics routinely monitor outpatients, especially those who fail to turn up during regular review appointments. These appointments are important as doctors and experts can detect early signs of relapse, so that they can be managed in order to prevent or reduce the severity of the illness when it occurs.
