Elderly woman hospitalised for four days before dying of dengueIn a release issued yesterday, the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environment Agency (NEA) announced that a 78-year-old Chinese woman has died of dengue.  A resident at Woodlands Avenue 5, the patient was first seen at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Emergency Department (ED) on Oct. 31, and had been admitted.  She was diagnosed with dengue and her condition deteriorated. She passed away on Nov. 4.  Woodlands is not in an active dengue cluster, but NEA says they're conducting vector control inspections in the area and encourage residents to cooperate fully.  According to the release, despite the dip in dengue cases in Singapore over the past two weeks, transmission risk remains high. All NEA stakeholders are advised to stay vigilant and prevent mosquito breeding by doing the 5-step Mozzie Wipeout. Both MOH and NEA have expressed their condolences to the family of the patient.   For more info on the dengue situation, visit the NEA website.
