Sim Lim Square has always been a hotbed of complaints — filed mostly by tourists — for their unscrupulous business practices and scams.
The High Court has now granted a permanent injunction against one of the shops operating at the electronic retail complex, Cyber Maestro.
According to TODAY, Cyber Maestro ranks among the Consumer’s Association of Singapore’s (CASE) top tenants in Sim Lim Square with the highest number of consumer complaints from July to September. A total of seven complaints have been made against the store, despite repeated notifications from CASE to refrain from unfair trade practices.
The complaints include overcharging, pressuring customers to enter transactions and misleading them about the prices and availability of goods, says Singapore Tourism Board.
The permanent injunction will now prohibit its employees from conducting such practices permanently.
Sim Lim Square’s management council is aware of their infamous reputation when it comes to the persistant problem of bullying retailers. They will continue to look into the issue of dishonest practices with the assistance of the authorities.
