In light of the lapses in hygiene found at a nasi padang stall located in Northpoint Shopping Centre that lead to the death of a four-year-old boy, the National Environment Agency (NEA) has decided to take the stall owners to court.
Recently, the State Coroner has ruled the death of Shayne Sujith Balasubraamaniam as a ‘misadventure’ — he died of food poisoning four days after eating from the Kopitiam food court stall earlier in January.
Investigations have revealed that swabs from their tongs used to handle food and their blender contained excessive levels of bacteria.
The Straits Times reported that the NEA will proceed to prosecute the stall owners in court for failure to register a food handler and failure to protect food in a covered receptacle.
If found in the wrong, stall owners can be fined up to $2,000 and a further fine of up to $100 for each day the offence continues.
