Prolific musician and composer Iskandar Mirza Ismail died in the wee hours of Saturday morning, Nov. 1, after battling brain and lung cancer.
He was 58.
Since the 1970s, the Cultural Medallion winner has led the musical direction for major Singapore productions like the Marina Bay Countdown and National Day Parades, as well as musicals like the famous Chang & Eng. Mr. Iskandar has also worked with renowned Mandopop stars like Aaron Kwok and Jacky Cheung.

As a child, Mr. Iskandar, who was born to prominent figures in the local Malay music industry, trained with Mr. Zubir Said, the composer of Singapore's national anthem. He later became the youngest teacher at the Yamaha Music School.
Just last year, it was announced that Mr. Iskandar would be part of a steering committee planning for Singapore's 50th birthday bash.
