Starting April 2014, passengers at Changi Airport will have the time taken for them to get on the plane cut by up to 50 percent, with the help of self-boarding gates.
Ground staff will still be around to help, but passengers can scan the barcode of their boarding pass on their own before they take their seats in the plane, a move that is also expected to reduce gatehold room operations — including security checks — to a mere 70 minutes.
