After comparing prices of urban transportation among 60 cities, travel search website GoEuro ranked the public transport system in Singapore as the 18th most affordable in the world.
The site’s Urban Transit Price Index took the price of public transportation, taxis and Uber services based on a single journey, factoring in the distance and time travelled in 60 cities around the world. Taxi and Uber data were calculated based on the cost of a 10km ride.
Singapore in particular lands in the 13th spot in overall urban transportation affordability, scoring better than those found in Brazil, Turkey, Hong Kong and France. New Delhi has been dubbed as the city with the most affordable urban transportation at only £0.13 per standard single ticket for public transport and less than £3 if one were to employ taxi or Uber services for 10km.
The city with the most expensive urban transit price is Stockholm, with £3 charge of a standard single ticket and up to £30 for a 10km Uber or taxi ride.
Despite solid statistical comparisons with other countries and the relative affordability of getting around here, Singaporeans will still be outraged over the increasing prices of public transport.
