Despite the Malaysian team’s dismissal of Jalan Besar Stadium, the ASEAN Football Federation has announced that the Suzuki Cup will be held there, along with the National Stadium.
Channel NewsAsia reports that the recently built National Stadium will hold Singapore’s matches against Malaysia, Thailand and Myanmar, while the rest of the matches will be held at Jalan Besar.
Last week, the Football Association of Malaysia requested that Suzuki Cup matches should not be held at Jalan Besar due to its artificial turf, taking issue with “playing on a plastic pitch”.
The National Stadium will not be holding all of the matches due to its defective pitch, which has often been described as sandy. A lot of work still needs to be done to ensure that the field — utilising state-of-art hybrid grass technology — is up to international standards.
