This morning, local non-profit organisation Sea Shepherd (SSCS) uploaded photos claimed to have been taken at the Underwater World and Dolphin Lagoon on Sentosa Island, via Facebook.
The entire album is disturbing — it features close-ups of the attraction's famous pink dolphins with serious injuries, such as gaping holes in their head and mouth, as well as a skin condition causing them to look 'mouldy'. One also has "fresh scratch/bite marks" on its nose and head.
Other photos show enclosures clearly lacking in upkeep — the pool where the Indo-Pacific Humpbacked dolphins are trained in seems to be smeared all over in algae, while the Asian small-clawed otters' living areas are said to lack water and shelter.
According to the now viral Facebook post (over 800 shares at press time), a member of the public had alerted the conservation society to the problem in July this year, triggering a collaborative investigation effort with similar platform Wildlife Watcher (WW[SG]).
The result is a revealing 30-page report, detailing the conditions of the investigation, and observations made of the animals, their activities, as well as their living environments.
