A 13-hours enforcement blitz on Oct. 20 concluded with the arrest of 13 people for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
Officers from the Clementi Police Division apprehended eight men and five women, aged 21 – 59, all of whom are suspected to be debtors-turned assistors, who'd facilitated activities such as opening bank accounts and giving away their Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and passwords.
Investigations are still underway. If found guilty, first-time offenders may face a fine of up to $300,000 and a four-year jail term, as well as at least six strokes of the cane.
