A fourth-year student at the National University of Singapore's (NUS) School of Computing, Joseph Matthias Goh, has proposed new designs for the anti-smoking ads found on cigarette packs.
Goh believes that "smokers have deep pockets and more importantly, desire", so using pictures to remind them of material aspirations like travelling and shopping for clothes is "a whole lot more effective".
On his blog, he provides a three-part explanation for his designs, currently being circulated on social media, including how he feels the current ads are being catered to the wrong audience: "Most people pick up smoking before adulthood. So why are anti-smoking campaigns targeting adults? Why not target the more susceptible younger generation who will be the smokers of tomorrow?"
