Changi General Hospital (CGH) recently launched a new rehabilitation programme targeted at providing verbal and physical therapy in one group session for patients with Parkinson’s Disease.
According to Channel NewsAsia, the group therapy classes will incorporate expressive vocal exercises and body conditioning techniques such as singing and stretching. This approach is believed to strengthen patient’s cognitive and motor abilities simultaneously.
Speaking about the two different therapy methods, CGH senior speech therapist Betty Wong said “We are actually tapping on a wider cognitive resource, making them learn how to double task better and with that, the benefits of the therapy can be better.”
Currently, 900 Parkinson's patients undergo treatment at CGH every year.
