After numerous names have been thrown around on who will play modern Singapore’s founding father (including Hong Kong heart throb Tony Leung), the folks behind upcoming drama film 1965 have revealed the actor who’ll be portraying Lee Kuan Yew on the silver screen — veteran actor Lim Kay Tong.
Making the transition from his popularity as a stern father in Growing Up to a stern Prime Minister won’t be an easy one, and he considers the upcoming task as the role of a lifetime. Reportedly, the film won’t be centred around him, and his character will only serve to frame the beginning and the end of the movie.
According to various media reports, other cast members were also revealed today including MediaCorp thespians James Seah and Joanne Peh along with Class95 DJ Mike Kasem and singer-songwriter Sezairi Sezali.
1965, first thought to be a political biopic about Lee Kuan Yew, is set to be a dramatic thriller revolving around the fragility of racial harmony during the nation’s turbulent era and will be released next year in time for SG50, Singapore’s jubilee celebration.
