The Inspector-General of Police said the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) will spare no effort to apprehend notorious 'sex blogger' and one half of the Alvivi online duo, Alvin Tan.
Utusan Malaysia's Mohamad Arif Mohd Yusof reports that IGP Khalid Abu Bakar vowed to hunt Tan down and bring him to Malaysian justice, despite the fugitive blogger's attempt to gain political asylum in the United States.
According to Khalid, Tan's actions could not be forgiven, as he had endeavoured to embarrass and malign several national leaders with his social media postings. "He (Tan) thinks he can escape. But every country has laws, and we will chase him to the ends of the earth," Khalid was quoted as saying. "There is no forgiveness for anyone who uses social media to defame and incite."
The former National University of Singapore scholar disappeared after the Sessions Court temporarily returned his passport to him, on the understanding that he needed to travel to Singapore to be featured in a documentary about his exploits. He is noe believed to be in Los Angeles, California.
Last month, the court decided to partially forfeit the bail money Tan put up in his case with partner Vivian Lee, in which the two were accused of insulting Islam and Muslims over their now-infamous Ramadhan bak kut teh Facebook post.
Tan also faces a charge under Subsection 5(1) of the Film Censorship Act 2002 for images deemed pornographic posted to the blog he shared with Lee, alviviswingers.tumblr.com, last year. The Tumblr page has since been deactivated.
Most recently, Tan irked several national leaders - and the IGP himself - when he posted altered images of them with pig's noses Photoshopped on.
