The recent personal information leakages from both M1 and K Box should be an expected occurrence in Singapore — companies here really love their customer data mining.
According to a recent survey by specialist recruitment firm Robert Half, Singapore companies are found to be among the most prolific users of customer data and analytics to drive business decisions, with 96 per cent of companies here practising data mining. This is the high percentage of any country polled.
Polling 810 Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) from a range of industries across seven countries — Singapore Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Switzerland and the United Kingdom — the survey reveals that almost half (42 per cent) of the companies here have an established function where data is used in most business decisions.
“Singapore has always been at the forefront of using technology to drive business,” says Robert Half Singapore managing director Stella Tang. “It is no surprise that 42 per cent of companies are using data mining and analytics, now a core function in many IT teams, to drive business decisions”.
