Survey exposes prevalence of overworked professionals in SingaporeIf you sometimes feel that you’re working too much, you’re not alone. Recruitment consultants Morgan McKinley recently released the results from their Working Hours Survey 2014, revealing that 82% of professionals working here say that they are working in excess of their stipulated hours, and that 65% feel obligated to work longer hours.  In the age of technology and continuous stream of information, work also seeps into home, with 72% of respondents admitting that they continue to work from home or on mobile devices outside the office. This would explain why an overwhelming majority of 85% feel that excessive working hours are affecting their work/life balance.  Compared to their Asia Pacific counterparts, more professionals in Japan and Hong Kong are overworked, with 84% admitting so. Australians however have it worse with 91% of professionals working longer than their contractual office hours.  Morgan McKinley South Asia COO Andrew Evans was not surprised by the results, mentioning that longer working hours and late nights in the office are commonplace in the Asian work culture. “More can be done to introduce increased flexibility to working hours by offices in the Singaporean market”, he declares. “Whilst the average professional in Singapore seems dedicated to working extremely long hours, our survey highlights that many professionals are indeed disgruntled with the work-life balance issue.” Photo: Wikimedia Commons Read Also: Census reveals global increase in billionaires, including five from Singapore
