Seven groups arrested for illegal sale of marine gas oilSince last year, the Police Coast Guard (PCG) has brought down seven groups – consisting of 55 foreign crew and three Singaporean financiers – involved in unlawful transactions of marine gas oil (MGO).  Cash up to over $22,000 and six vessels were confiscated throughout the investigation. In the first two cases on July 8 and Dec. 4 last year, foreign registered boats Montana and Imanuel travelling in Jurong River waters were seized respectively. In total, 21 persons were arrested for the sale of 5,000 litres of MGO. All are facing a sentence of four to eight weeks in jail.  In the third case on May 21 this year, a foreign registered boat in Penjuru was seized for the sale of MGO. 11 crew members were arrested and sentenced to seven weeks’ imprisonment for the offence. The cases mentioned all involved tugboats remodelled with extra fuel tanks, which are at risk of blowing up in flames and becoming a danger to other vessels in the area.  Photo: Derek Gavey via Wylio
