Just one more week to the races at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, and the final preparations are taking place - even a blessing ceremony held by nine religious leaders across different faith groups to ensure the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix runs smoothly.
In a tradition that started with the first Formula 1 Grand Prix held in Singapore back in 2008, the ceremony involves an assembly of religious leaders coming together to pray for good weather and safety of the drivers, officials and spectators involved in the race. Leaders from Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Sikhism, Judaism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism and the Baha’i faith conducted the observance yesterday, Channel NewsAsia reports.
Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, deputy chairman of Singapore GP Colin Syn remarks “As we gear up and put the finishing touches to the Marina Bay Street Circuit, we will not leave anything to chance”.
As far as Formula 1 is concerned, Singapore is the only country that practices this ritual.
