ACRES issues $10,000 reward for information against marmoset keeperThe Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) just launched an urgent appeal on their Facebook page for information that will lead to the “successful prosecution” of the person who illegally kept and neglected a pet marmoset monkey. Their appeal follows the discovery and rescue of a female marmoset found lying on a grass patch along Marine Crescent last Friday. According to ACRES, the animal was “severely emaciated” and was found to be suffering from a severe metabolic disease when examined by vets at the Singapore Zoo. The marmoset had to be euthanised.  Marmosets are native only to the rainforests of South America and it is illegal to keep them as pets in Singapore. ACRES is offering a $10,000 reward for any information that can lead to the custody and prosecution of the keeper, with the call for an urgent need to curb black-market wildlife trade. “We must send out a strong message that Singapore is committed and serious in combating this illegal trade and ensure that individuals involved in this trade are not only caught but given effective deterrent sentences”, ACRES declares in the Facebook post.  Any information regarding this incident can be passed on to ACRES through their Wildlife Rescue Hotline at +65 97837782.  Photo: ACRES Facebook Page Read Also: Tragic plight of monkey family in hit-and-run accident making rounds on social media
