![Video: RSAF officer breaks it down on runway, but he's not playin']()
ICYMI, this video of a Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) officer 'break dancing' on the runway has been going viral:
In case you assumed the guy was playing the fool, he's not. In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the RSAF explained the video "was not done on a whim".
What ME1 Tan Wen Kai was doing was something called creative marshalling, a 'colourful' version of the standard visual communication process employed by the ground crew and pilot to launch an aircraft or guide it to the correct parking position. This version is sometimes used during long exercises and competitions toboost the morale of both air and ground crew. According to the RSAF, due planning and supervision are given to ensure that the creative marshalling is operationally safe.
In the video, ME1 Tan was communicating with one of the Air Force's F-15SG as part of a planned segment during the recent Exercise Pitch Black in Darwin, Australia.
In the Facebook post, the RSAF also shared footage of other military groups conducting creative marshalling:
