The Singapore Science Centre and the Ministry of Education (MOE) have established a new initiative to bring applied learning in science to local secondary schools: the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Applied Learning Programme (STEM ALP).
STEM ALP aims to engage students in the realm by bridging the gap between textbook knowledge and real life application, according to a press release by MOE this morning. Skills taught will include scientific inquiry and literacy, computational thinking, reasoning and problem solving and other analytical abilities.
A unit of 50 personnel called STEM Inc. has been established by the Singapore Science Centre, which will be working closely with schools for this programme. Currently, 42 secondary schools are offering STEM ALP, with plans to expand to 20 more by 2017.
