Singapore's first satellite estate Queenstown to be remembered despite redevelopment projectsCivic group My Community and the Queenstown Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC) has officially announced the My Queenstown Heritage Blueprint 2020, which aims to commemorate the history and ex-residents' fond memories of Singapore's first satellite estate, in light of its proposed rejuvenation.  Among the initiatives expected to be ready by 2020 are a museum, as well as a network of galleries, heritage corners and markers installed at various parts of Queenstown.  The museum will showcase exhibits such as the music scores used by '60s band The Quests, started by Queenstown Secondary Technical School. The My Queenstown Neighbourhood Heritage Corners will trace the evolution of the six neighbourhoods in the estate using permanent 3D exhibitions and interactive spaces, while the galleries will consist of old photos contributed by ex-residents themselves.  The public can also look forward to a biannual Queenstown Festival, whose pilot was launched successfully in 2013. It will be made up of exhibitions and stage performances inspired or performed by Queenstown residents. Overall, the blueprint works to complement the upcoming development projects in Dawson and Margaret Drive.  According to a Channel NewsAsia report, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC Dr. Chia Shi-Lu said today, "Queenstown is the first satellite estate in Singapore and it contains memories of many Singaporeans. While we look forward to the proposed rejuvenation of the estate, we will also work hard to retain and incorporate our history and heritage into the new developments so that Queenstown will always be our home - with hope and with a heart." Currently there are already five historic trails happening every last Sunday of the month that cover the estate's landmark buildings and areas, including Singapore's second brewery, the Archipelago Brewery Company at Alexandra Road (pictured).
