Singapore’s biggest foreign worker dormitory is set to open at the end of the month with around 3,000 workers living in the compound, The Straits Times reports.
The 8.4-hectare dormitory located at Tuas South Avenue 1 will house a minimart, beer garden, food court, 250-seat cinema, and 16,800 beds in its 20 four-storey blocks.
Headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the new Tuas View Dormitory is part of an effort to alleviate concerns regarding foreign workers issues – in this case, the shortage of dormitories.
Plans for eight other dorms are underway, including the opening of 25,000-bed dorm at Sungei Tengah in 2016.
