What would you do to look beautiful? Tortured Beauty is a new Coconuts TV series about the lengths some people will in the name of health and beauty.
In the latest episode, Yvonne Liang gets her face threaded on the street in Bangkok's Chinatown. Near Yaowarat Road, a row of Chinese beauticians deftly prune their customers faces with white thread up and down the sidewalk. Face threading is supposed to remove unwanted facial hairs and smooth the skin. Although, as Yvonne learned, having a beautician open up your pores on the polluted streets of Bangkok may not be the best idea.
For more Tortured Beauty, check out our first episode where Yvonne undergoes an unusual detox treatment, Gua Sha, that involves skin-scraping with a buffalo horn. Apparently being scraped with a buffalo horn is far more pleasurable than it sounds, but it does make your back look pretty scary for a few days afterwards.
