Singapore’s 19-year-old Joseph Schooling made history today when he placed second in the men’s 100m butterfly final, winning Singapore its first Commonwealth Games swimming medal.
Schooling clocked in at 51.59 seconds, earning him the silver. South Africa’s Chad Le Clos took home the gold in a “new Games record of 51.29”, Today Online reported. England’s Adam Barrett came in third with 51.93.
As if bagging the country’s first Commonwealth swimming medal wasn’t enough, Schooling set a new national record, after having beat his own 52.22 time which he clocked in Sunday.
The swimming medal is Singapore’s fifth so far at this year’s games in Glasgow. The others were bagged by the men’s and women’s table tennis team, as well as the badminton mixed team.
