The media caught a glimpse of the newly established Queenstown Heritage Trail yesterday, which stretches from Tanglin Road to Portsdown Road, and which aims to educate the public on the history of Queenstown – the country’s first satellite estate.
The cultural establishment documents the evolution of Singaporean public housing through personal accounts from older residents and visits to at least 60-year-old local landmarks, Today Online reported.
“We had a Red Indian circus here last time,” said Mahmood Tamam, a long-time resident in Stirling Road, one of the areas covered by the trail. "There was an elephant here where everybody could touch or feel.”
Besides Stirling Road, the trail includes landmarks like the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Queenstown’s first Catholic church, and Sri Muneeswaran Temple, purportedly Southeast Asia’s largest Hindu shrine for the deity.
Those interested can register for the free guided tour on every last Sunday of the month through EventBrite, email myqueenstown@gmail.com (for group tours of >30 people) or calling Queenstown Community Centre at 6474 1681.
