![Police warn against 'sparkler rockets' as Hari Raya approaches]()
The Singapore Police Force has issued a reminder on the use of sparklers in Singapore, trailing right behind the Muslim eid celebration. "While the importation and sale of some types of sparklers are legal in Singapore, sparklers should be used in a responsible manner according to the safety guidelines prescribed by the manufacturer," it wrote in a statement.
The police is also reminding the public that it takes a serious view of anyone who sets off "improvised explosive devices constructed using sparklers" or "sparkler rockets" as they're often referred to. "Such improvised explosive devices are a potential fire hazard, and causes noise pollution and undue alarm to the public. The blast effect from the explosion can also cause injury to persons and damage to property," it warns.
Anyone caught setting off such a device may be prosecuted in court for either an offence of negligent conduct with respect to any fire or combustible matter, or negligent conduct with respect to any explosive substance. If convicted of either, the offender is liable to up to one year in jail, a maximum $5,000 fine, or both.
